In a scenic area in the mountains, you will help local farmer Yasushi with doing winter maintenance on his persimmon trees. The main task for winter maintenance is pruning the branches of the trees. While learning about the complexities of growing persimmons, you will also be moving your body, giving you a chance to refresh both your mind and body surrounded by nature. After the pruning is done, we will enjoy a meal together while chatting with Yasushi.
This experience is generally available during November to March.
Here is the flow:
After arriving at the train station, you will take a taxi to the orchard. At the orchard, we will do introductions. Yasushi will explain about cultivating persimmons, and then do an explanation of the pruning. We’ll prune for about 2 hours. Then we will clean up and you can try eating some ‘anpogaki’ dried persimmon. The area is famed for its dried persimmons. They are juicier than most dried fruit you’re familiar with! Afterwards, we will go to nearby restaurant/souvenir shop Yashimaya for lunch (incl. in price). This local restaurant specializes in healthy recipes that bring out the best flavors of the ingredients. We can talk and relax over lunch. After lunch, you will take a taxi back to the station.
